Barrett Confirmed To U.S. Supreme Court
Justice Amy Coney Barrett will take her seat on the U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday after a Monday night Senate confirmation vote and unofficial swearing-in at the White House. NBC's Tracie Potts reports.
WASHINGTON (NBC News) — Justice Amy Coney Barrett will officially join the U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday.
Barrett was confirmed by the Senate and sworn in an unofficial White House ceremony Monday night.
“I pledge to you and American people I discharge my duties to the very best of my ability,” she said afterward.
Barrett promised to be impartial after a bitter, partisan fight over her confirmation, which was rushed in record time ahead of next week’s presidential election.
Legal experts predict this will be the most conservative court since before World War II.
She joins the court just in time to hear arguments on the Affordable Care Act in just two weeks, as well as possible cases arising from next week’s election.
