Barren man charged with attempting to kill son

A Barren County man is accused of attempting to kill his son Tuesday night.

At 8:31 p.m. the Barren County Sheriff’s Office was called to 943 Beaver Creek Boat Ramp Road on a reported domestic assault, according to a release from the Barren County Sheriff’s Office.

When deputies arrived, they said Cary Lemons, 56, told them he got into an argument with his son that became physical, he alleged that his son choked him and he could see stars, according to his arrest citation.

Lemons said he grabbed his .22 caliber pistol and fired two shots over his son with the second shot causing his son to let go of him, according to this arrest citation. Lemons is accused of firing four additional rounds until his gun jammed. He told deputies he attempted to clear the jam before grabbing a larger caliber 9 mm weapon and firing one round from it into a wall.

Two of the rounds from the 22 caliber weapon hit walls in a hallway. The other rounds hit a living room wall. The 9 mm round traveled through two interior walls into the house and through a window where the bullet traveled near a neighbor’s home before stopping, according to the citation.

Lemons’ son, Eric Lemons, ran away from the home and waited for deputies to arrive. Cary Lemons. Eric Lemons told deputies he was defending himself against his father when his father opened fire on him, according to the citation.

Cary Lemons’ wife was holding he couple’s nine-month-old grandson in the living room when the guns were fired, according to the citation.

Cary Lemons is charged with one count of attempted murder domestic violence and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. Eric Lemons was not charged with any crime in this incident.
