Barren County Schools central office to be relocated and renovated
GLASGOW Ky.- Since the 1970s, the Barren County District has had its central office in downtown Glasgow. To accommodate for a growing staff size, a new, bigger building was needed. The district is getting just that. The central office will be in what was originally the Glasgow Christian Academy Building.
“The building we’re in served its purpose for many years. As the district has grown, so has our staff. We’re excited about being able to get a facility that can hold all of our district personnel,” said Barren County director of facilities Anthony Frazier.
The school board voted to purchase this property in July for $2.9 million, and the renovation is expected to cost $2.6 million.
It’s not just central office moving into the new location. Overflow preschool classes from Red Cross Elementary and North Jackson Elementary are currently in the Broadway Street property. This was sold to Highland Hills Community Church, and the preschool classes will move across the street from the new central office.
“I’m super excited. I know it’s going to give us more space, provide more opportunities for them. One of the big things is the playground. We don’t have an outside playground here, so we’re looking forward to that,” said North Jackson Elementary preschool teacher Denise Rose.
Moving will be a tall order, but Barren County staff said they’re ready to move into this new location.
“It’s another pathway and another opportunity for the students of Barren County to be involved. We look forward to getting those buildings renovated so we can get those students in them,” Frazier said.
The preschool classes are expected to be moved to the new building in January. The move for central office is estimated to be complete in two years.
