Barren County man sentenced to 15 years in federal prison in drug possession case

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – A Barren County man will now spend the next 15 years in prison in relation to the possession of methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Eric R. Sturgeon, 42, was arrested in 2020 after authorities discovered he had more than 420 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute the drug.
Officials also say that Sturgeon, who was a convicted felon, had several guns in his possession.
The court documents also stated Sturgeon has a conviction of drug trafficking in 2018 and a conviction of drug possession and manufacturing in 2015.
Most recently in 2021, Sturgeon was arrested after authorities found he had more than 170 grams of methamphetamine and a semi-automatic gun, according to officials.
In addition to the 15-year prison sentence, the court ordered Sturgeon to serve four years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
