BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – The Barren County High School Cheer Team won the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship for Small Varsity Coed Division II.

The district says the varsity competition, considered the most prestigious in the nation, was held at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

The Universal Cheerleaders Association has hosted the competition for over 40 years, and this year, over 1,000 teams from across the country competed for top honors in various divisions, according to the district.

“I am so excited for this team and this program. We have worked so hard this year. This team made history and won our first UCA National Championship! I can’t explain how excited all these kids and parents are. As a coach, I am extremely blessed to have such great athletes. My mom has coached for 44 years, and she sure deserves this,” BCHS Cheer head coach Drew Bewley Settle said.

Amy Irwin, the BCHS principal, said, “We couldn’t be more proud of this team. These athletes and coaches put in countless hours to reach this level of excellence, and this championship is a result of their hard work and commitment.”

The team is coached by Settle, Teresa Bewley and Logan Brooks. Student-athletes include Aleiah Barlow, Stevie Hubbard, Nathan Jones, Kayden Jones, Canyon Calhoun, Kinsey Edwards, Jayci Childress, Lexie Bush, Jaylee Shipp, Dianna Peden, McKenna Clifford, Brianna Smith, Isabella Riney, Lexi Cox, Paisley Gosnell, Anslee Gearlds, Khloy Morgan, Olivia Roberts, Jessica Jones, Dalee Brooks and Kaylee Wood.
