Barren County declares state of emergency due to weather damage

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Barren County and the City of Glasgow have formally declared a state of emergency due to damage from severe weather.
The Barren County/Glasgow Office of Emergency Management says the choice will allow the county to operate outside of the approved budget for expenses due to the storm and days onward.
Emergency management says large numbers of employees are working overtime to clear roads of debris.
Officials say this emergency declaration allows the county and city to gain reimbursement for funds that cover this, as well as funding for road and public building repairs.
According to emergency management, individual and personal property damage is not included in this reimbursement, but the Office of Emergency Management says it is still responsible for reporting that type of damage for FEMA review.
Officials say individual, personal and business aid are prioritized by FEMA for those without insurance coverage first.
They say if this type of aid is possible soon, they will provide steps moving forward. However, while reporting damages does not guarantee aid from the state or federal agencies, it can still help present an idea of overall damage in the area.
Glasgow/Barren County EM reminds the public to take photographs to document structural damage and debris piles on roadways before removing debris.
