Barren County Contractors Association hosts banquet to prepare for 2026
GLASGOW, Ky. – The Barren County Contractors Association held its first banquet Tuesday night, as they look to establish itself in the community heading into 2026.
“Everyone’s heard the stories about an elderly couple having to pay thousands of dollars, and the contractor leaves town or whatever. So what we do, we’re not a licensing organization, but we do make sure they’re insured, and we keep a list of that… and it’s on our website so the public can get a hold of it or look at it and see who’s actually in the organization,” chairman Donald Wyatt of StarTel Systems, Inc. says.
It’s a chance to network, but it’s also an opportunity to get a first look at what’s to come in 2026, a year that the Barren County Contractors Association hopes is their biggest one yet.
“This year, we’re trying to focus on getting more benefits to the contractors, which will help the public have a place that they can find licensed and reputable contractors in the county,” Wyatt says.
The Contractors Association was founded back in 2024, and in their second full year, they want this banquet to be a chance for residents to find the right people for their jobs.
“Not only are they getting the exposure of having the network, and of course our elected leaders are promoting this as a way for their constituents… the people at large in our community that don’t know where to get a good, reputable person to come out and fix a toilet or build an addition or just build a whole new house or anything. We’ve got people here that are skilled and diverse and doing everything that this community needs to grow,” associate vice president Kelton Scott with Kelton Scott Plumbing says.
The main thing they’re looking for is feedback, both good and bad.
“We need to get the message out to the public that they have a place that they can go get reputable contractors… and if we grow that together, it’s just going to be good for the community,” Wyatt says.
In the end, it’s all about developing that community spirit.
“If we’re going to put our 100% in, and it should be very beneficial to the community and the membership, we can’t get better or bigger without a development of a community network… and it’s just another way to network with one another,” Scott says.
