Barren County Bass Fishing is Headed to the State Tournament
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Last Saturday, the Barren County bass fishing team hit the Green River for the regional tournament.
For the first time in head coach Wesley Sneed’s tenure, spanning five plus years, the school is headed to the state tournament after weighing in at 11 lbs and 4 oz.
The boat of sophomores Dylan Poynter and Cole Winchester finished 15th out of over 80 total boats, qualifying them for the next round.
They spoke on what preparation is ahead, and their coach shared how proud he is.
“Most tournaments, we do a little bit of practice fishing and some research, you know, and that’s about it,” Winchester said. “Weather, what’s going to happen when we’re going to be there, and that’s about it.”
“We already had a little taste of Green too, because last year we did about the same thing really,” Poynter said. “We didn’t catch size though, but we did the same thing we did this year and caught a few last year, so we did that.”
“These guys right here, I’m super proud of their accomplishments and I’d be proud of them even if they didn’t qualify,” Sneed said, “because I know who they are and what they’re capable of, so, they’re exceptional young men and we’re going to support them as they go to the state and stand behind them and maybe they can put on a good show for us.”
