Authors Share Publishing Advice at Warren County Library Panel
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Aspiring writers gathered at the Lisa Rice Library on Sunday for an author panel focused on the publishing process.
The event featured four authors at different stages in their careers, including traditionally published and self-published writers. Panelists discussed topics such as editing, querying, building a platform, and the emotional challenges of getting published.
“I self-published, I paid for all of it myself,” said author Fallon Willoughby. “I paid for my editing, I paid for my cover. I have to pay for the books upfront for me to have print copies to sell to people.”
Sheila Stovall, a Christian fiction author, emphasized how difficult the traditional publishing route can be.
“Rejection was hard. Getting an agent was hard,” Stovall said. “If you’re wanting to go the traditional publication route, it’s hard.”
Author Alex Huntsman said one of the biggest hurdles is simply letting go of fear.
“It’s always going to be scary,” Huntsman said. “But do it scared.”
The event was part of the library’s summer programming and was open to both teens and adults.
