WEKT reports a door in the facility was also damaged.

The inmates were reportedly “calmed down” by authorities shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday. No injuries were reported.

The entire jail staff and the Simpson County Jail Correctional Emergency Response Team responded to the scene.

The Elkton Police Department, along with the Todd County Sheriff’s Office, also provided added perimeter security during the incident and subsequent investigation.

The inmates will receive Department of Corrections write ups, which Penick stated will add significant time to their jail sentence.
