An act of humanity by a Barren County lineman
BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – A flag pole snapped and a veteran did what he had to do.
During the storms that blew through Kentucky this past Friday, March 3, Rita Bishop’s flagpole snapped in all the craziness.
During the late hours of Friday into early Saturday when linemen were out trying to get power restored to areas, a young veteran working for Farmers Rural Electric Co-op Corporation took some time to perform a patriotic service.
The linemen performed a Ceremony of Retreat for the fallen American flag, neatly folding it 13 times and placing it back on the patio of the homeowners.
When Bishop looked out the kitchen window on Saturday, she was shocked to see the tricorn form hat on the porch table. When Bishop saw it, she was perplexed but knew that Farmers Rural had serviced their lines, so she reached out to a friend of hers at WRECC to solve the mystery.
The lineman doesn’t want any kind of recognition nor does he want his name shared – he says he was just paying his respects for a country he cares for.
