Alleged assault suspect flees police, crashes into cow pasture fence in Horse Cave

HORSE CAVE, Ky. – A Hardin County man is facing several charges after allegedly assaulting a man and fleeing police.

According to a uniform citation, the Kentucky State Police responded to an assault complaint in Horse Cave Saturday evening.

During the investigation, KSP determined that the suspect in the alleged assault fled the scene in a vehicle belonging to the victim.

The vehicle was located and a trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop at L&N Turnpike and Kentucky Route 218, according to the citation.

KSP says the vehicle failed to stop and continued traveling over the speed limit on Flint Ridge Road.

The suspect allegedly threw a bag out of the passenger side window. The bag was later located and contained a handgun.

According to the citation, the pursuit continued to the 4000 block of Flint Ridge Road when the vehicle exited the roadway and struck a fence, coming to a stop in a cow pasture.

KSP says the suspect then fled on foot toward a tree line before being apprehended.

The investigation resulted in KSP identifying the suspect as 43-year-old Brandon Wease, of Elizabethtown. Wease was driving on a suspended license.

The investigation shows that Wease is a convicted felon.

Wease is charged with speeding 10 MPH over the limit, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), tampering with physical evidence, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, first-degree criminal mischief, operating on a suspended operator’s license and no operator’s license-moped license.

Wease was lodged at the Hart County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
