All-way stops added to Downtown Bowling Green intersections

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Two downtown Bowling Green intersections now feature additional stop signs.

On Thursday, the City of Bowling Green announced its implementation of all-way stops at State Street and Third Avenue as well as the College Street and Third Avenue intersections.

According to Andy Souza, director of Public Works for the City of Bowling Green, the city conducts traffic studies before adding traffic control devices. The study shows 2,000 cars travel the roadways where the new all-way stops have been installed. Souza says cross-traffic and pedestrian activity factor into the decision to add traffic control devices.

Telia Butler, downtown development coordinator for the City of Bowling Green, says input from the community was utilized in the city’s decision.

“A couple of downtown businesses along the State Street corridor brought the request for these extra stops to my office and Public Works for consideration, whose team researched further and found the need was warranted at both the State and College Street intersections. Thanks to Public Works for implementing this plan to improve visibility and pedestrian safety in our growing downtown,” Butler says.

Officials encourage motorists to be alert in the area.
