AAA encourages checking home insurance to cover any weather-related home damage

BOWING GREEN, Ky.- You may have suffered some home damage during these winter conditions, and AAA is advising that you check your home insurance to see what may or may not be covered. They are providing some tips for the next time we face cold conditions.

Experts recommend unhooking any hoses on outdoor faucets and filling any cracks or holes on exterior walls or window seals. This will keep the warm air in your house. Another thing to concentrate on is pipes. You want continuous water flow during freezing temperatures, so leave your faucets dripping and cabinet doors under sinks open.

Media spokesperson for AAA East Central, Lynda Lambert, says, “Your homeowner’s insurance will cover it, but you’ve got to make sure that your home is properly maintained and properly prepared for this weather. Some of it is on you, you’ve got to stay ahead of the game if at all possible.”

Homeowners insurance will cover weather-related damage. The best thing for you to do is check with your insurance agent and make sure you have the necessary coverage.
