BG/WC Humane Society uses social media for necessities, including surgeries
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Social media has become one of the biggest tools used by humane societies when it comes to raising funds for surgeries and giving animals the services they need while keeping the community informed.
For the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society, Facebook is the one form of social media that helps them get the word out.
Using the Facebook donation feature to raise money for an animal’s surgery and x-ray expenses has helped save animals lives and give them a better quality of living.
Facebook also helps them share local events, prevent animals from being at the shelter too long by getting them adopted or for those who can’t visit the shelter to remain informed on what animals are available.
On Wednesday, social media helped raise $765 from 34 donors to pay for one dog’s surgery.
Sady, a black lab mix, came to the shelter with inverted eyelids but after an Entropian surgery, she is now ready for adoption.
Social media also helped pay for her x-rays.
Mallory O’Neil, the Assistant Operations Manager, says she is humbled by the overwhelming support from the community.
The Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society plans to continue relying on social media to better connect the community to the shelter.
