Warren County Sheriff’s Office now equipped with Narcan medication
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Last week, WNKY told you about Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower looking to equip his deputies with a powerful medication used to treat a drug overdose in an emergency situation. Now, the sheriff has that weapon.
At no expense to the sheriff’s office, the agency was just given 32 Narcan kits from the group, Drug Free Warren County.
Narcan, or Naloxone, is a nasal spray designed to rapidly reverse a drug overdose.
The Bowling Green Police Department already utilizes the medication, which costs over $80 per kit.
All of the Warren County deputies will be trained on how the medication works before using it, Hightower said.
“We don’t have the situation here that Jefferson, Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Fayette and Madison counties have with this epidemic, but it can happen here today or it can happen here tomorrow,” Hightower said. “We want to be prepared for any situation we may come in contact with and know we’ve done everything we can to try and save someone’s life.”
Hightower expects his deputies to hit the streets with the Narcan kits sometime in the next four to six weeks.
