COLD CASE: Police need help solving the 1983 murder of Cenia York
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Kentucky State Police are reaching out to the public to ask for leads on a nearly 40-year old cold case.
On Sept. 19, 1983, Cenia York, 57, was walking to a barn on her property when she was shot to death, according to Kentucky State Detective Shey Foley.
“I believe KSP along with the ambulance service was some of the first responders on scene that day. It was located on Mrs. York’s farm, and I believe it was a cane field. It was definitely a field that she was located. I believe she was traversing back from the old milk barn and unfortunately she never finished her journey,” said Foley.
Her body was found in the field behind her home on Walkers Chapel Road in Adolphus in Allen County with gunshot wounds.
Police arrested Jimmy Pedigo in connection to the murder in March of 1984, but by August, the case was dismissed, according to court records.
A dismissed case can be tried in the future without double jeopardy.
“Upon receiving this case file in 2019, I have done a little bit more legwork into the case file,” Foley said.
Something I found very alarming is whenever I was out in the community actually discussing this with folks, most of the individuals I spoke with thought this case file was resolved and no longer active, and I just wanted to remind the majority of the community that we’re still very much investigating it, and we’d appreciate their assistance in resolving it,” said Foley.
KSP asks if anyone has any information in reference to this case, contact police.
“Even the smallest of details to someone, may be in the big picture of some of the other information we have, it may just be the puzzle piece of slips in a place that allows us to see the bigger picture,” said Foley.
York’s husband was cleared and was not considered a suspect in her murder.
None of York’s children nor her husband are still alive, according to investigators.
