“I Got A Second Chance At Life” – COVID Survivor Comes Home

Jeff Hanson is finally home after three months in the hospital fighting COVID-19. Two of those months he was in a coma and on a ventilator. WPBN's Brittney Buti reports.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (WPBN/NBC News) — A Traverse City, Michigan man is finally home after a months-long battle with COVID-19.

Jeff Hanson, 57, was in the hospital for three months.

Two of those months he was in a coma and on a ventilator.

“They told me I was in a coma for two months and to me, it felt like I was only sleeping for 12 hours,” he recalls.

After three days of being awake, Jeff was back in the ER.

It was the biggest setback yet, not just physically, but mentally.

“I was near death,” Jeff says. “I didn’t want to live like this. I was like just put me down. I gave the doctors a signal like this but I didn’t want to live anymore, just I couldn’t go through it.”

“So, they let me into the ER, I had to gown up and you know like a hazmat suit, and I got to go in and see him. And I convinced him to give it two more weeks,” his wife, Rose, says.
