(NBC News) — UPDATES TO INCLUDE NEWS THAT THE UK STRAIN OF COVID-19 HAS BEEN CONFIRMED IN CALIFORNIA. The country is experiencing a record number of Covid hospitalizations and with many ICU units full, hospitals are facing an overflow of patients with staffing and space pushed to the limit. All of this coming at a time when healthcare providers are bracing for a post-holiday surge and the discovery of a new variant of the virus in a patient in Colorado. NBC’s SARAH DALLOF reports.
