World War II hospital car at train museum is one of four remaining

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- A World War II hospital army unit car at the Historic Train Museum is about to go under more renovations.

The rail park is designing a proposal for the inside of the car.

It is one of only four remaining cars of its type in the United States. The car is restored on the outside, but needs to still be restored on the inside. The museum will apply for grants at the federal and state level that are available for this particular project. They are also asking for help from the community.

The car was actually used to take injured troops back home to their families. The museum’s Executive Director Jamie Johnson said she thinks the car will draw people to Bowling Green.

“Because of the history around the car and the fact that so many passengers did travel in this car, and with its connection to the military and service and war, there are a lot of people that really have a personal connection to this car. So we expect people from all over the world to come and see this car when it has been restored,” said Johnson.

Johnson said they hope to finalize the plans for restoration by January. For more information and to donate you can visit their website here.
