McConnell says coronavirus vaccine is coming soon

EDMONSON CO., Ky.- U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell held a campaign event this late afternoon in Edmonson County.

Over 100 people from the community showed up for the event in support of him.

McConnell delivered remarks on his Senate race against Democratic candidate Amy McGrath, the Tuesday election, and coronavirus.

This is what he and Congressman Brett Guthrie had to say about a vaccine.

“On the way over here from Eddyville I was talking to a CEO of one of the major pharmaceutical companies and they’re close, they’re close. We think we’re gonna get more than one actually, vaccines, get them in record time. Then get these doses out to people all over America and all over the world and it’ll be America’s great pharmaceutical industry that does it,” said McConnell.

“I was hoping we would have a vaccine before next Tuesday but it’s within days if not weeks away. A lot of people think it will happen after the election on purpose I think it’s when science says it’s ready.

“I’m on the committee that oversees this so I can tell you they’re submitting data. It takes an independent scientist, scientific review board, it doesn’t need to be political whatsoever, so we’re gonna have a vaccine when it’s safe and effective. All the experts in D.C. say that’s coming within weeks,” said Guthrie.

Before coming to Edmonson County, McConnell had also stopped in Owensboro and Eddyville earlier in the day.
