Together Again: Coronavirus Survivors Reunite

Charles and Nellie Anness have spent most of the past 71 years together, but were forced to enter separate hospitals after falling ill with COVID-19. Now, they're together again. WLEX's Michael Berk reports.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WLEX/NBC News) — Coronavirus has claimed more than 228,000 American lives, and it’s been especially hard on the elderly.

Still, it’s been no match for Charles and Nellie Anness of Lexington, Kentucky.

The pair have been married 71-years, with little time apart.

That’s why it was especially hard for them when they both contracted coronavirus and had to be treated in separate hospital rooms for 10 days.

“We don’t even want to think about it. It was awful. But it was wonderful when we got to be together again,” Nellie says.

The couple eventually reunited at a rehab center where they spent the next 16 days working together to get their strength back.
