Hair salons see business slow down amidst pandemic

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Hair salons are seeing business slow down despite having reopened after being shut down for more than three months at the beginning of the pandemic.

Heather Potter, salon coordinator at Tanglez Hair Studio, says that right when they reopened they were busy, but now things have slowed down.

“People aren’t going anywhere, they don’t have a need to look their best and honestly they went 10 weeks without having their hair done. A lot of people went the entire 10 weeks. And so they can go a little bit longer. There just isn’t a need like there was before,” said Potter.

Another reason is that walk-ins are no longer allowed and customers are required to make an appointment.

2 Lanez salon owner and master barber Chad Lee says he had been frustrated when they had to shut down, and it’s a similar feeling now that business has slowed down.

“You just get to the point where you’re just sitting at home and you’re like my skill set isn’t worth anything not being essential. When you’re out here putting smiles on people’s faces, because you make people feel good and feel refreshed,” said Lee.

Salons are trying to provide the safest environment possible for their customers and remain open.

“When they get here they know to call the front desk. Then we come out and we take their temperature. They come in, they wash their hands before they’re seated. We also aren’t double booking clients,” said Potter.
