UK’s Johnson urged to fix growing England exam chaos

LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing mounting calls to sort out a crisis over how grades are being awarded to high school students in England. Hundreds of students took to the streets of London on Sunday to protest what they consider a grave injustice. Gathering outside the Department for Education, they vented their frustration at a system that has seen 40% of final-year A-level students receive lower grades than those predicted by their teachers. Because they couldn’t take exams this summer as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, hundreds of thousands of A-level students were awarded grades Thursday via an algorithm that many say is flawed. The student fear the lower grades will jeopardize their future plans.
