Howls of protest as UK starts 14-day quarantine for arrivals

LONDON (AP) — Britain began imposing a quarantine Monday on all travelers into the country _ a sweeping measure meant to halt the further spread of COVID-19. Passengers _bar a handful of exceptions _  will be asked to fill in a form detailing where they will self-isolate for two weeks. Those who fail to comply with the quarantine rules could be fined. Crime, policing and justice minister Kit Malthouse says “for the moment, having a clear set of rules around international travel is critical.”  The quarantine was imposed after heated debate on whether it would stamp out any hope for the hospitality industry to recover following the lockdown. Aviation has been particularly hard hit by travel bans worldwide, but pubs, restaurants and hotels have also faced ruin because of the restrictions.
