Hilltopper baseball and softball ‘Bat Out Breast Cancer’

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Monday night, the WKU softball and baseball squads teamed up at Nick Denes Field to host a special event for a good cause.

The fifth annual ‘Bat Out Breast Cancer’ event helped gather proceeds to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Those in attendance were able to donate money in exchange for some swings in the batter’s box, with a few even leaving the ballpark.

A pair of local Hilltoppers spoke on the meaning behind holding the event every year.

“ It’s important because it’s a cause that needs to be trying to get help for it,” Hilltopper baseball sophomore Ethan Reynolds said. “Mrs. Dawn, Coach Rardin’s wife, she had breast cancer and she fought through it. It’s people like those who are very strong women who need this important cause.”

“I think it’s important to keep consistency within our community and this is a great awareness to be able to do that,” WKU softball senior Kendle White said. “Just having all these proceeds go to something that’s bigger than ourselves has been amazing. Our community supports us in many ways throughout our seasons, and I think just being able to give back to something, especially this big of a cause, it’s been great.”
