Warren County magistrate candidates speak at fiscal court
WARREN COUNTY, Ky. — Candidates for Warren County magistrate in Districts 3 and 4 introduced themselves during Thursday’s fiscal court meeting ahead of the November general election.
Warren County Judge-Executive Doug Gorman said the court has traditionally given candidates for magistrate the opportunity to speak to residents during election years.
Gorman also encouraged residents to participate in the election, calling attention to low voter turnout in previous elections.
“When we have 16 and 17 and 18% turnout, it’s embarrassing,” Gorman said.
In District 3, Republican incumbent Rick Williams is seeking another term against Democratic challenger Barry M. Brown.
Williams highlighted the importance of teamwork in county government and pointed to the court’s work on public safety, road improvements and fire protection.
“We all get together and we make these decisions based upon our visions for the future,” Williams said.
Brown said his professional experience in leadership and management would guide his approach to serving the district. He emphasized listening to residents, treating people with respect and remaining accountable to constituents.
In District 4, Republican incumbent Rex A. McWhorter is seeking another term against Democratic challenger Megan Bailey.
McWhorter highlighted county investments in public safety, road maintenance, parks and emergency services during his remarks. He said his experience serving on fiscal court would be valuable if reelected.
“Experience matters in this chair,” McWhorter said.
Bailey said her campaign is focused on community care, practical solutions and responsive government. She said residents want their concerns heard and addressed by elected officials.
“More than anything, I’ve discovered constituents desire to be seen, heard, and validated,” Bailey said.
The general election is Nov. 3. Voters in Districts 3 and 4 will decide who represents them on Warren County Fiscal Court.
