Glasgow’s Groove & Glow returns Sept. 26 with hot air balloons, live music and family fun

GLASGOW, Ky. — Hot air balloons, live music and family activities will fill the Glasgow Municipal Airport Sept. 26 for the annual Groove & Glow event.

The event, organized by Entertain Glasgow, is scheduled from 4 to 9 p.m. and is free to attend. Parking is also free.

Organizers expect 10 hot air balloons to participate, including two that will offer tethered rides for an additional fee.

April Russell, chair of Entertain Glasgow, said the event is designed to bring the community together for an evening of entertainment and family activities.

“The event is all about bringing the community together, allowing them to have some entertainment and kids activities and just a night of community togetherness,” Russell said.

In addition to the balloons, families can enjoy inflatables, face painting, a train ride and a gaming truck that is new to the event this year.

About 15 to 16 food trucks are also expected to be on site.

Live entertainment will begin around 6 p.m. Local band The Dad Bods will perform before The Spazmatics, an ’80s tribute band from Nashville, takes the stage.

Matt Compton, co-chair of Entertain Glasgow, said the balloon glow is one of the event’s biggest attractions.

“Something like a balloon glow, if you’ve never seen it, you’ll just stand there in awe, taking in the sight,” Compton said.

Russell said Groove & Glow also helps bring visitors from outside Glasgow to the area, benefiting local businesses.

“They come in, they stay here for the weekend and enjoy the other things we have to offer,” Russell said.

Organizers say the event relies on community partners, sponsors and volunteers to make it possible.

The balloon glow is expected to take place around sunset.
