Man arrested after allegedly fleeing police with 2-year-old in vehicle in Mayfield

MAYFIELD, Ky. – One man is behind bars after allegedly fleeing police with a young child in the vehicle in Mayfield.
According to the Graves County Sheriff’s office, on Wednesday, Aug. 18 around 8:25 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop at North 12th Street and West Broadway.
Authorities say while the deputy was approaching the driver, the driver drove off at a high rate of speed, resulting in a pursuit.
Deputies say the pursuit traveled out to KY 121 North before being terminated for public safety reasons.
According to authorities, speeds reached up to over 90 miles per hour on North 13th Street.
The agency says around three minutes later, an individual called to report a vehicle in question had turned down Copeland Road next to the North Pockets gas station on Paducah Road.
Authorities say the deputy was in the immediate area and located the vehicle in a field.
Upon contact, authorities say they located a female occupant and a 2-year-old child in the vehicle. Authorities say the driver was identified as 21-year-old Ashton Sneathen of Mayfield. Sneathen had allegedly fled on foot after parking the car.
Following a brief search of the area, authorities say they found Sneathen inside of an abandoned truck in the backyard of a residence on Crittendon Lane. Sneathen was arrested without further incident.
He faces charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), fleeing or evading police (on foot), two counts of wanton endangerment, reckless driving, third-degree criminal trespassing, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, possession of marijuana and multiple other traffic offenses.
