2 KSP cruisers hit during traffic enforcement in Louisville work zones
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police says two of its cruisers have been struck while working traffic enforcement in Louisville work zones.
That’s according to Trooper Bryan Washer, public affairs officer for KSP Post Four, who states both drivers of the other vehicles in the separate incidents have been charged. They were transported to Louisville Metro Corrections.
Washer says troopers were not injured in either crash.
Washer stated, “Work zones are already dangerous. When you add impaired or distracted driving, they become deadly. Our troopers, road crews, tow operators and first responders are standing or parked just feet from moving traffic, trusting drivers to do the right thing.”
Authorities are encouraging drivers to remain aware. If you see emergency lights ahead, authorities ask that you slow down, move over when it is safe to do so, put the phone down and to never drive impaired.
“These crashes are preventable. Help us ensure there isn’t a third. Please slow down, stay alert, and make responsible decisions behind the wheel,” Washer stated.
According to a uniform citation, 51-year-old Jose Salazar Agreda of Louisville was charged in connection with one of the crashes on Aug. 4 in Saint Matthews in Jefferson County. Salazar Agreda faces charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, first offense, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first-degree wanton endangerment, reckless driving (work zone), failure to produce an insurance card, no operators – moped license and failure to yield in a road work zone.
The citation further states Salazar Agreda’s preliminary breath test measured at .234.
Additional details in these incidents have not been released.
