Former Murray detective indicted on sex offenses involving minor

FRANKFORT, Ky. – A former Murray Police Department detective sergeant is formally charged with dozens of felony charges related to alleged sexual contact with an underage girl.
According to Kentucky.gov, 44-year-old Justin Swope was indicted on one count of first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor, illegal sexual act, victim under 16, one count of first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor, illegal sexual act, victim under 18, 10 counts of promoting a sexual performance by a minor, victim under 18, four counts of third-degree sodomy, 10 counts of third-degree rape and two counts of first-degree sexual abuse.
The indictment states the abuse started in 2018, when the victim was only 15 years old, and continued through 2021, officials say.
During that time, officials say Swope sent the minor “inappropriate pictures of himself and forced her to do the same.”
Later, officials say he forced the victim to “take part in sexual acts an sexual intercourse.”
Swope was employed with the Murray Police Department at the time, according to officials.
