Louisville Orchestra brings free music and community connection to Glasgow

GLASGOW, Ky. – Downtown Glasgow became a concert hall Thursday night as the Louisville Orchestra brought its In Harmony Tour to the community.

The free outdoor performance gave residents the chance to experience a professional orchestra without traveling to a traditional concert venue.

“The Harmony Tour is a free event,” said Mallory Kramer, director of marketing for the Louisville Orchestra. “We actually go all across the state performing free concerts for our community, for the state of Kentucky.”

The In Harmony Tour travels to communities throughout Kentucky with the goal of making orchestral music more accessible. Organizers say the program is about more than just a performance, it is about creating connections.

“It’s a chance to get up close and personal with the community, really get to know them on a personal level and reach communities we might not be able to otherwise reach,” said Elizabeth Etienne, senior tour manager.

The Glasgow stop has become a yearly tradition, with organizers saying attendance continues to grow as more people experience live orchestra music for the first time.

For Louisville Orchestra cellist Allison Olson, the hope is that the evening inspires people to continue exploring music.

“I hope they’re excited. I hope they get inspired by what they hear, and I hope they are excited to listen to more classical music in future as a result of hearing tonight,” Olson said.

Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse said the community has embraced the orchestra’s visits, which have helped highlight the city’s downtown area.

“It means so much to show our love of music, to show how proud we are of our downtown area,” Royce said.

The In Harmony Tour is part of the Louisville Orchestra’s effort to bring music beyond traditional concert halls and into communities across the Commonwealth.
