Couple charged after reported theft of French bulldog in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Two people are behind bars after allegedly stealing a French bulldog in Nashville, Tennessee.
According to a release by the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, 28-year-old Errick Mayfield was arrested last week after the alleged theft occurred in April.
Police say the dog, named Bella, was recovered.
On April 25, police say Mayfield allegedly knocked Bella’s owner to the ground before grabbing the dog on White Bridge Pike.
Authorities say Mayfield ran to a waiting SUV being driven by a woman. The vehicle then pulled into an apartment complex lot to turn around and struck the dog owner’s daughter, who was trying to intervene, police say.
According to police, the daughter was seriously injured and spent “several days in the hospital.”
The dog’s owner stated to police that Mayfield gave the dog to her in January due to not wanting it anymore, authorities say.
Earlier that day on April 25, authorities say the victim stated Mayfield showed up at her apartment wanting the dog back. However, police say the victim refused, saying Bella belonged to her.
Authorities say the victim showed detectives paperwork from a vet clinic where she had taken the dog for treatment in February.
On Thursday, June 18, detectives say they took Mayfield into custody on outstanding warrants, charging him with robbery and aggravated assault.
His girlfriend, 39-year-old Latrecia Golden, was also arrested on a felony theft charge, authorities say.
Authorities say she surrendered Bella to officers during the arrest.
