Butler County Rescue Squad teaches safety skills at the Butler County Library

MORGANTOWN, Ky.- The Butler County Rescue Squad spent Thursday afternoon teaching local children about safety during a special event at the Butler County Public Library.
As part of Safety Day at the Library, rescue squad members gave children an up-close look at the equipment they use and explained how they respond to emergencies throughout the community.
Participants learned important safety tips for situations such as becoming lost in the woods, encountering emergencies near water and knowing when to call for help.
The event also featured hands-on demonstrations designed to teach children how to react during emergencies and provide a better understanding of the role first responders play in keeping the community safe.
Organizers say they hope the lessons shared during the event will help children feel more prepared and confident if they ever find themselves in an unexpected situation.
“If you take what we teach you and apply it, it makes it safer and helps you get back to your house, your family and your loved ones faster,” said Brandon Keown, chief of the Butler County Rescue Squad.
Rescue squad members say community outreach events like Safety Day help build awareness while giving children valuable skills they can use throughout their lives.
