BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Monday evening on the Hill, WKU softball held its annual Lil Topper Softball Camp.

The camp was divided into two separate age groups, starting with kindergarten through 2nd grade in the first two hours, followed by 3rd grade through 7th grade during the final two hours.

Attendees were taught the fundamentals of the game, like baserunning, fielding and hitting, but most importantly, the goal was for the campers to learn to have fun playing softball.

“The girls that come here to participate, I think just making sure they have fun. We actually had a conversation in the locker room where we let them ask us questions. They were talking about no-hitters and perfect games, and their answers were actually that a perfect game means to have fun in the game, so I think just the theme of the day was to have fun,” WKU softball pitcher Rylan Smith said.

Some of the players from the team got a chance to be coaches for the day. They shared some of their favorite experiences from camp.

“It’s just an opportunity for us to kind of connect with the community and little girls and just kind of, I guess, pay it forward in a sense. We were all there at one point, and now we’re here. So, it’s nice to kind of see people who are wanting to follow the same path,” WKU softball first baseman Annie White said.
