RockBox Bowling Green helps kids stay active through summer boxing camp

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A local fitness studio is helping children stay active and build confidence this summer through a youth boxing camp.

RockBox Bowling Green recently kicked off its four-week Kids Camp, welcoming children ages 5 to 12 for a fun and active way to spend their summer weekends.

The camp meets every Saturday and Sunday throughout June and introduces participants to the basics of boxing through games, drills and interactive exercises.

Organizers say the goal is to encourage healthy habits, keep children moving during the summer break, and help them develop confidence in a supportive environment.

“I think it’s important to teach kids that working out can be fun and doesn’t have to be a punishment or something you only do for sports,” said Mekayla Van Wyk, a fitness instructor at RockBox Bowling Green. “It’s a great way to stay healthy, keep moving and have fun during the summer.”

Fellow instructor Jeanbosco Tuyisenge says the camp also helps children develop valuable life skills.

“It’s very important to get kids moving, especially during the summer,” Tuyisenge said. “It also gives them an opportunity to learn self-defense skills they can use if they ever need them.”

The camp meets Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to noon and runs through the end of June.
