WKU PBS hosts an Open House for ‘Protect My Public Media Day’

Pbs Open House

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In collaboration with Protect my Public Media Day, WKU PBS hosted an open house on Thursday, June 4th, to show the community their facilities and inform them on what they do.

PBS employees were able to give attendees tours of their studios, production trucks, and master control rooms as they opened their doors to the Bowling Green community.

With it being Protect My Public Media Day, those at PBS felt it was crucial to open their doors to those in the area and continue to provide accessible media.

“It’s important to me that we reach out to the community, you know. And when public media is being threatened, we can get everyone on the same page. We are here for our community.” Said Nick Teller, Associate Producer and Director for PBS.

It may not seem like it, but PBS has its hand in a lot of media in the Bowling Green area.  Formerly, they used to have Lost River Sessions. A TV and radio concert series on both WKU PBS and Public Radio.

But, they also produced all WKU sports and even hold productions for every commencement ceremony each year.

This gives a chance for families of graduates to be a part of the special moment, even if they can’t be there in person.

“It might not seem like, you know, oh, there’s only this many viewers. But then, like you look at the comments and it’s like, ‘Oh, congratulations, my grandson.’ And you realize it’s like there are people that this is their way to access it.” Said Max Fister, Associate Producer at PBS. “So it is nice to have that sort of outreach for people.”

PBS is here to provide accessible media to the community, a mission that all staff have bought into. The employees feelings towards the mission of public media will always remain the same, no matter what obstacles are thrown their way.

“The people here are wonderful.” Said Angie Nine, Member Services Specialist at PBS.  “I really support the mission that goes on here and I just love being able to support a mission that is so unique and important to everyone, no matter the circumstance.”

As public media continues to be threatened, it is important to protect it and remember they are here to provide the community with accessible and educational media coverage.
