SOKY Alliance celebrates Pride Month
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Pride Month is underway, and SOKY Alliance is marking the occasion with a full calendar of events aimed at bringing people together.
Throughout June, the organization will host several community gatherings in Bowling Green, including a movie night, teen meetup, worship service and open house events.
“We like to take the time during Pride Month just to celebrate some joy and some visibility,” said Crystal Akers, director of SOKY Alliance.
SOKY Alliance supports LGBTQ individuals and their families across south central Kentucky. Akers said the organization’s Pride Month events are designed to be open, relaxed and welcoming to members of the LGBTQ community and their allies.
“Having these events, having visibility, it shows you’re not alone. It shows you have people around you, and it’s just important to experience joy,” Akers said.
Akers said having spaces where people feel welcomed and supported can make a major difference, especially for those who may feel isolated.
“We are here for you. Check us out. We’ve got a community here, and we want to keep building and growing and nurturing that. So, if you’re feeling isolated and want to reach out, we can connect you to some resources,” Akers said.
SOKY Alliance’s Pride Month events will continue throughout June.
