Former Murray police sergeant charged with rape involving minor

MURRAY, Ky. – A Murray Police Department sergeant is facing sexual abuse charges.
According to a release, the Kentucky State Police was contacted by MPD on May 19 to investigate sexual abuse allegations against 44-year-old Sgt. Justin Swope of Almo.
KSP detectives say Swope met with the 15-year-old victim while on duty in 2018.
The female victim told detectives about multiple sexual encounters with Swope when she was a juvenile, according to the release.
On May 20, Swope was arrested and charged with two counts of third-degree rape and one count of third-degree sodomy third-degree in Calloway County.
Swope is also charged with two counts of third-degree rape and one count of third-degree sodomy in Trigg County.
KSP says Swope resigned from the Murray Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing.
