2 facing charges after Simpson County inmate allegedly picks up drugs

FRANKLIN, Ky. – Two people are facing charges in a Simpson County drug investigation.

According to a social media post by the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force, on Tuesday, agents performed surveillance on 53-year-old Timothy Spivey’s residence on Macedonia Road in Franklin.

Authorities say they observed Spivey drop an item in the grass near the roadway as a Simpson County Jail trash pickup crew was walking on Macedonia Road.

Agents then saw 31-year-old Cody L. Green of Smiths Grove, an inmate at the Simpson County Jail, pick up the item that had been dropped, according to the drug task force.

Agents say they stopped the trash pickup crew and located crystal methamphetamine in Green’s pants pocket. Authorities say this is the fifth time Spivey was been charged with trafficking methamphetamine.

During a search at Spivey’s home, authorities say they found more methamphetamine, along with packaging materials, scales and paraphernalia.

Green was charged with possession of a controlled substance, first offense (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Spivey was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, second offense, less than 2 grams of methamphetamine, trafficking in a controlled substance, second offense, greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The investigation remains ongoing.
