Owensboro man arrested after allegedly fleeing police, destroying road sign

MORGANTOWN, Ky. – An Owensboro man is facing charges after fleeing police in Butler County.
According to a uniform citation, a Kentucky State Police trooper was traveling south on Interstate 165 near the 7-mile marker when a car was seen speeding in the northbound lanes. The car was traveling at 104 mph in a 70 mph zone, according to the trooper.
The trooper says he turned around and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the operator continued toward Butler County.
The vehicle later crashed after failing to make a left-hand turn at the bottom of exit 26 in Butler County, according to the Morgantown Police Department.
The operator, 50-year-old Corey Nunn, of Owensboro, allegedly told officers that he had “no idea or reason to run other than that he did not want a speeding ticket,” according to the citation. Officers say a juvenile was also inside the vehicle.
Police say a road sign was damaged in the incident.
Nunn was arrested and transported to the Butler County Jail.
Nunn is charged with speeding 26 MPH or > speed limit (limited access), reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree wanton endangerment, and second-degree criminal mischief.
The investigation is ongoing.
