Bowling Green woman charged after child allegedly overdoses on THC gummies

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green mother is behind bars after authorities say a young child was unresponsive due to allegedly overdosing on THC gummies.

According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department responded Friday to a residence due to an overdose involving a 1-year-old.

Upon arrival, authorities say EMS personnel were carrying the unresponsive child to the ambulance.

Police say the spoke to the child’s mother, identified as 31-year-old Walstechia Jenkins of Bowling Green.

Authorities say Jenkins appeared to be under the influence and stated the child had access to a package of THC gummies that had been in the bedroom.

According to police, Jenkins stated she “walked away for a second, and she believed the child opened the package and ate them.”

Police say the package of gummies stated it contained D8, D9 and THC, with 2,000 milligrams. Authorities say in plain view, they could also see another package of THC gummies and a shooter bottle of vodka in the bedroom.

Officers say two other children in the home during the incident could have accessed the gummies as well.

The 1-year-old child was transported by ambulance to The Medical Center at Bowling Green emergency room.

Jenkins was arrested and transported to the Warren County Regional Jail. She faces one count of second-degree criminal abuse, child 12 or under, and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.
