Kentucky mayor indicted in excessive campaign contributions investigation

FRANKFORT, Ky. – A Kentucky mayor is facing charges following an investigation into excessive campaign contributions.
According to a release from the Attorney General’s Office, City of London Mayor Randall Weddle was indicted on four counts of excessive campaign contributions by a Laurel County Grand Jury on Tuesday.
Attorney General Russell Coleman says Weddle is charged with two counts of campaign contribution restriction/expenditure limits when he allegedly unlawfully contributed more than $2,000, indexed for inflation, to the Andy Beshear for Governor campaign during one election and for two counts of campaign contribution restriction/expenditure limits when he allegedly unlawfully contributed more than $5,000 to the Kentucky Democratic Party in one year.
The charges are Class D felonies.
Attorney General Coleman is expected to provide more information on Tuesday afternoon.
The investigation is ongoing.
