Man arrested on drug, careless driving charges in Metcalfe County

KNOB LICK, Ky. – A traffic stop leads to the arrest of a man in Metcalfe County.

According to a release, a Metcalfe County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop in Knob Lick on Saturday evening after observing a pickup truck traveling southbound on KY 1243 in a careless manner.

The deputy made contact with the driver, 62-year-old Ronald D. Poynter.

Poynter allegedly showed signs of impairment, according to the release.

Following Field Sobriety Tests, Poynyer was arrested for driving under the influence.

The deputy says an investigation resulted in locating suspected methamphetamine, prescription-controlled substances, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Poynter’s possession.

Poynter was transported to a local hospital for a toxicology examination and later lodged at the Barren County Detention Center.

Poynter is charged with possession of a controlled substance, 1st offense (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance, 1st offense (drug unspecified), trafficking in marijuana, 1st offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, 1st offense and careless driving

The investigation is ongoing.
