MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. – The Green River Ferry in Mammoth Cave National Park is expected to reopen March 5.

According to Mammoth Cave National Park, daily operations will resume from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST. Ferry service was suspended while the park repaired navigational cables and support towers damaged during a flood in spring 2025.

Park officials say system replacements include two 1,000-foot navigational cables that guide the ferry across the river, two 20-foot tall towers holding navigational cables in places and a 15.5-ton concrete anchor.

Mammoth Cave National Park says the ferry was sandblasted and repainted, along with receiving a new generator and engine.

It also received its United States Coast Guard inspection and certification, park officials say.

Ferry operations are subject to water levels on the Green River, according to the national park. To learn more, click here.
