ALLEN COUNTY, Ky. – An Allen County School is teaming up with WellCare to host an event aimed at encouraging a sense of belonging for students.

On Friday, Feb. 13, middle school students at Allen County Intermediate Center will participate in No One Eats Alone Day, a program aimed at making students feel like they belong and to discourage isolation.

The school says it will speak to students about the effects of social isolation, raising awareness and teaching students to include their peers, the release says.

In addition, students will hear about how they can help everyone in their school community feel accepted, respected and valued.

WellCare states a study shows loneliness and social isolation “have a direct correlation to an increased risk of depression and thoughts of self-harm or suicidal ideation.”

This year, WellCare says 151 schools in Kentucky will take part.
