(NBC News) – Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell is back home from a week-long stay at the hospital after experiencing flu-like symptoms.

According to NBC News, a spokesperson for the senator says McConnell was discharged on Tuesday and is feeling better.

He will work from home this week on the advice of his doctors.

The 83-year-old has faced mounting concerns about his health in recent years, according to NBC.

Last year, he announced he would not seek re-election, setting off a competitive primary race to replace him.

McConnell was first elected senator in 1984 and served as the Republican leader in the Senate from 2007 to 2025.
