The Giving Plate gives back to locals in need

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – For the past two years, a local café has created a space for people in south-central Kentucky, the chance to give back to people in need.

The Giving Plate,  a high-end French-style café in Russellville, is helping people who may be unhoused or food insecure with support from the community by creating a space for people to eat, share and grow.

Alvy Holloway, the manager of The Giving Plate, says, “Now people are, people are struggling. And so we have so much we need to give back.”

With today’s economy, the staff says it is seeing a greater need that goes beyond one meal.

Shawn Lowery, the owner of The Giving Plate, says, “We don’t just give them a meal when they come in. Sometimes we go get groceries for the elderly. We do different things, whatever the need is.”

The number of people who are going without is greater than what most people know, and giving community members the chance to give back can make a massive difference.

Alvy emphasizes the importance of giving back.

He says, “There are so many people in our country, in our world, who are suffering from food insecurities. And so we wanted to bring something a little bit different to Russellville.”

Alvy and Lowery recognize that hunger looks different for everyone and are motivated to find ways to support anyone who might be suffering.

Lowery also shares, “it’s just about caring. You have to look past the difference and look for your similarities. They’re there and you should help people. That’s that’s a give me right. That’s that’s why god created us.”

The Giving Plate is having a Valentines Day event this weekend. For more information, visit their Facebook.
