GLASGOW, Ky. – A Munfordville woman is charged with falsely reporting an incident in relation to reporting an alleged sexual assault in Glasgow.

According to the Glasgow Police Department, 18-year-old Autumn Tomlin of Munfordville was arrested Tuesday by the Hart County Sheriff’s Office on a complaint warrant.

Police say the charge stems from false allegations reported to Glasgow law enforcement at Walmart on Feb. 4.

The Glasgow Police Department posted a statement regarding the case on Feb. 6, stating it had conducted a thorough investigation into a report of a sexual assault alleged to have happened in a Walmart restroom.

According to the statement, Glasgow police treated the report “with the seriousness such allegations demand.”

As the investigation continued, police say digital and physical evidence were obtained, which “refuted the legitimacy of these allegations.”

In addition, the department stated, “Allegations of this nature are incredibly serious and need to be thoroughly investigated before conclusions are made, not only for the integrity of the investigation but for public safety.”

The Glasgow Police Department further stated, “It is important to emphasize that our agency investigates many reports of sexual assault. The overwhelming majority are legitimate crimes involving real victims. False reports negatively impact other victims who want to report their trauma, while also undermining public trust and diverting critical emergency resources.”

The agency continued, stating, “Finally, we urge the public to exercise caution with social media speculation and rumor-sharing. Inaccurate information can cause unwarranted fear, public outrage and unfairly discredit the professionalism and training of responding officers who are following the protocols in place to investigate allegations in their totality. The Glasgow Police Department remains committed to conducting thorough, unbiased investigations and to supporting victims while ensuring accountability when false reports are made.”

Tomlin remains at the Hart County Jail.
