Congressman Brett Guthrie enters Green River Hill Grocery into Congressional Records
HART COUNTY, Ky. – Congressman Brett Guthrie stopped by a local store in Hart County earlier Friday morning to celebrate its 75 years of service and officially enter it into the congressional record.
The Green River Hill Grocery has served the Hart County community for 75 years and has provided delicious meals and locally sourced foods. Guthrie recognized its service to the community and has officially entered it into the congressional record, which will preserve its history and impact forever. Guthrie says that recognizing stores like this and keeping their history is important to telling the story of America.
“It’s nice to preserve these stories. I remember as a kid going to a lot of stores and the old Coke bottle places where we had to pull it out of the rack and get them out of. And some of those, now, you drive by and there all have weeds that have grown up, so many of them. And it’s great to it’s not just that they’re preserving this. This is thriving,” Guthrie said.
The Wright family took over the store over a year ago and says that the grocery itself has played an impact in their own lives as they grew up. But they say that is the community that has made them into what they are today.
“Absolutely I’m 100% convinced that it’s the community members of this area that are the real champions of this story. You know, they are the ones that have chosen each day to come in, buy a gallon of milk, or stop by for a slice of pie or stop in on their way to cut hay to grab a sandwich,” said owner Rachelle Wright.
If you would like to check out the Green River Hill Grocery, it is located at 5685 N. Jackson Highway in Munfordville.
